If you are of those who have lived at least three of these troubling episodes over a period of three weeks, it can be that you're among the 2 to 5% of the population who suffer from panic disorder. The episode of irrational terror that we have just described is called a panic attack. Although crises do not always resemble the situations described above, they have similar characteristics. Panic attacks are different from any other feeling of anxiety.

Medically, a panic attack must include at least four of the following symptoms: sweating; shortness of breath; palpitations; chest discomfort; instability; feeling of choking; tingling; flashes of heat or cold; failure; earthquake; feelings of unreality; fear of losing self-control, of dying or going crazy. Crises occur very variably depending on people.
