This is the recipe for about 1 pint of my favourite green smoothie:

1 ripe banana

1 medjool date (or more depending how sweet you like things)

1 head of romaine (cos) lettuce

1 small handful of oats + enough water to cover the fruit & oats in the blender (or use the milk of your choice: soya, rice, oat, hemp, coconut or nut milks all taste good in this)

1 tblspn powdered flax seeds

Firstly blend the fruit with the milk then start adding the romaine until all blended. Enjoy!

You can add other greens to this and it will still taste sweet like a banana smoothie, so it's a great way of getting extra greens if you're don't like them much or aren't used to them. It works well with spinach, watercress, rocket (arugula), kale and beet greens - but with the last 2 drink it as quickly as possible and wash the blender right away as it will start to thicken otherwise.

You can also experiment with other fruit in it, blueberry and beet greens will make a wonderful purple smoothie. I love certain fruits such as mango so much that I prefer to eat them seperately, but they do work well in green smoothies too.

I find banana and dates are the best for hiding the flavour of the greens, it really does taste like a fruit smoothie, and I think oat milk goes particularly well with bananas.

I started making my own oat milk with GF oats after I discovered I was gluten intolerant, but as I only ever used the milk in smoothies, I decided to cut down on time and washing up by just throwing oiats & water in the blender instead!
