I think tatts and piercings are awesome... However, I have a major fear of needles and such...

I have two...got them like 20 years ago when they were still more of a novelty I guess. A seahorse....cuz it's always impressed me that the male seahorse is the one that gives birth. The other one is a butterfly cuz I couldn't afford a wolf, which is what I really wanted. (Wish I'd have had the patience to save up!)

I have a few tats and several piercings. My youngest son is training to do tats and I've done piercings professionally. My favourite tat is the small dragon on my ankle that I had done after a near death experience and my favourite piercing is my nostril. I set a 2mm white diamond in white gold for a stud that has become my signature piece.

Though about getting one on my ankle or on my wrist , kind of like a thin bracelet which is actually a sentence . Know what I mean ?
But I realized I didn't have anything meaningful enough to write . So , I'll just wait coz I'm not sure.
Susan Sarandon impresses me so much ! She's a 60-something and still getting new tattoos :D Awesomeness that is .

Next year , I'm planning on doing a belly button piercing for my birthday but I kind of thought it would picture me as a material and stupid girl ( like Britney Spears , or those "stars" who got one )
What do you think ?

I have a navel piercing and I'm not a stupid girl. It was my gift to me for my 36th birthday because I thought it was pretty and I could design jewelry for it, which I did.

I don't associate belly button piercings with the "stupid girl" thing. Go for it if you want it. You can cover it when needed at least.

Cemblee getting tats done close to the bone or on sensitive areas like the inside of the upper arm or the inner thigh hurt the most. The person doing the tat also has an influence on how painful it is.

I was thinking about getting tatto. But my friend told me : ''Woman's body is the most beautiful thing in the world, why mark it?'' And now I'm not so sure anymore...

If a tat is tastefully done it enhances the beauty of the human form but each person views things differently.

I agree with you, Lil. I do appreciate a good body art myself. It's just if I'm having doubts about getting tatt, it means I don't really need one right now.

I have 3 tattoos. A rose on my forearm, a woman shaped as a moon on my shoulder, and a abstract heart design on my lower back.

Agreed.  I was 36 before I got my first tat and it was the dragon I drew when I was 18.

I think it's neat when tats have stories behind them.

It is good that Summer found a tattoo artist that actually knows what they are doing. I have seen too many people with tattoos that do not mean what they think they do.

I also have a sun and a moon, mine are on my feet though. :) One was painless, the other excrutiatingly painful - wholly due to the techniques of the tattoo artists that did them.

It definitely depends on the tattoo artist as to how much pain you'll go through. I want ones on my feet but I'm way too afraid.

I'm thinking about getting another one. My sister-in-law is dying of colon cancer. So, I'm thinking about getting the colon cancer ribbon and her name. I just don't know where I'll put it. Either inner wrist or foot.

My next tat will be a ferret hand print on the inside of my wrist for my little girl Gaz. She passed away last November and I miss her everyday.

Oh, gosh, Lil. I read that and I got choked up. The ferret hand print would be so sweet.

I know a lot of people who's tatts mean nothing, or they mean something really stupid.
Also it seems anyone can just get a tatt now-a-days just because they think it looks cool.
If i ever got one it would have meaning.
I do have an industrial piercing that I love and wanted to do a more vertical one on my other ear, but turns out the 1st place didn't do them, and the 2nd said my ear wasnt the right shape and the earring would just push and push out.
I wanted that for my b-day the other day, and it made me upset I couldnt get it.
Then again Im going on vacation soon, and to a beach -like ocean - so I'm sort of glad I didn't get a new piercing because the ocean would probably disturb it.
Maybe another [more horizontal] industrial? Like the one I already have?

What gauge industrial? Out of curiosity, how do you care for your new piercings? My instructions for people I pierced were to use only saline. It consists of 1/4 tsp non-iodized sea salt to 8 oz warm water and soaked 2-4 times per day, morning and night were the most important soaks, then pat dry with a paper towel.

Uhm gauge... hmm... I'm not 100% sure the gauge of it but I know the length.
I cared for my industrial with just saline (contact) solution and that was it. Also tried to not catch it or hit it on stuff when I first got it.
I wanted another really bad! but the one I wanted wouldnt fit my ear right. :( Maybe when I get back from vacation....

If it won't fit you shouldn't force it. I worry about migration and issues with cartilage.

I wanted a tattoo of "Eternity Awaits" from one of my favourite songs VNV Nation - Beloved. Or some lyrics of the sorts at the back of my neck so I could show it or hide it etc. However many people I spoke to didn't like to idea of it being at the back of my neck. One person said it's "too common" another said "It's chavy" so I debated it. Then a friend gave me a link of some information saying some (?) inks or just black (?) have animal parts in them... can anyone tell me if this is true please? :]

Sukai, there are vegan friendly inks and you have to ask for them. They cost quite a bit more and your tattoo artist will need to order them unless they're one of the rare vegan friendly shops that already have them on hand.

Yes, always state if you are vegan.

I got my tattoos before I went vegan, but luckily didn't like black outlines and asked for them to be omitted, handy that!

Tattoo Ink - Tattoo ink almost always contains glycerine as a carrier (ie. the liquid that the pigment is suspended in). Vegetable-based glycerines are available, but tattoo ink may be manufactured with either (or neither).

  • Black Tattoo Ink - Some kinds of black tattoo ink are bone black, made by burning animal bones down to a charcoal.

Wow, it never would have occurred to me to worry about tattoo ink. I wonder what other areas I'm inadvertantly using animals without even being aware....

I think my industrial is 14 gauge.
I wanted a more vertical one - but my ear wouldn't fit it. :(
So I may be getting another industrial [like the one I already have] in my other ear - but will first try for an orbital.
