A GOOD alternative to ice cream?

Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions for a vegan alternative to ice cream? I have pretty much tried everything at this point. Bought the cuisinart ice cream maker and the highest rated vegan ice cream recipe book-the recipes weren't that good and NO WAY am I going to be making a batch a few times a week-I hate to cook!

Tried the frozen banana idea-that was awful.

Tried every little pint of vegan frozen non dairy dessert I could find. Rice Dream brand is waaaaay to sweet. The coconut ones have so much fat! Almost paid over $50 for 4 pints of some raw nut brand on amazon last night-but came to my senses.

I really, really love low fat ice cream, frozen yogurt and FAGE yogurt too. I want to stop eating them to do my part to help to stop factory farming and the cruelty to the cows. But I need an alternative. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks!

I really don't like their yogurt. Fage is much better. And the ice cream has so much fat! But thanks for your reply.

Joy, if you are eating a truly healthy vegan diet and want a bit of ice cream, So Delicious coconut ice cream is the way to go. It's one of the healthier options and uses natural fat. If you're eating right, you should be fine.

The So Delicious coconut ice cream bars are the best, by the way!

I just tried So delicious coconut ice cream yesterday. It was so good. But I wouldn't suggest it if you don't like coconut, because it has a little bit of a coconut-y taste. The same company also has a large selection of soy milk ice cream. :)

I'm pretty sure you ca make icecream with almond milk. Not sure what it tastes like though... I had the coconut icecream and its very good, but thats just one flavor right... You can easily get bored of it. I love icecream, and i'm trying to cut back on my dairy products too.

The So Delicious coconut ice cream comes in lots of flavors, including chocolate, cherry amaretto, mint chip, cookie dough, etc.

Nuts produce good ice cream, but the texture is a little different.

What my boyfriend and I love to do is cut up bananas and freeze them. Then we add the frozen bananas, almond milk, stevia, and usually peanut butter (Mmmm) to our blender and blend til smooth. It's SO yummy.

We tried the frozen banana with cocca and peanut butter last night. Not for us. I miss my frozen yogurt. Thanks for the ideas.

Really? I didn't know that! OK, well then i shouln't have to much of a problem cutting back. I'm going to college in the fall anyway and the college i'm going to is very vegan/vegetarian friendly... So i should be good. Thanks!

I just got a Cuisinart ice cream maker too, but it's been so cool this summer in Washington I haven't used it yet. I want to find a recipe that uses agave and/or stevia as I don't want all the sugar I see in the sorbet recipes. Of what's out there in sorbets, so far I like the Ciao Bella Blackberry Cabernet - very yummy and flavorful, so will try to make something like it with less sugar.

Have you tried Almond Dream ice cream, made with almond milk? It's my favorite of the non-dairy ice creams. Also, almond milk yogurt is really good. :)

I haven't tried it myself, as I'm not an ice cream fan, but have you tried just freezing vegan yogurt? Or perhaps freezing flavoured soy milk? Just something worth trying perhaps?

I'm so envious! Here in the UK we only have one dairy alternative - soya milk products. I really don't like soy products (except fermented ones ie tempeh, miso & tamari).

I would absolutely love to try coconut milk yoghurt!! I don't really want to have to make my own but it's looking like my only chance of trying it.

There is one new soy free vegan ice cream recently -  called Freedom, it's okay but a bit watery... It is sugar free too which is great http://www.worthenshaws-freedom.co.uk/

Does anyone even read posts before replying? Most of you responded with ideas that I had already tried and listed in my post. And the frozen banana idea ISN'T ANYTHING LIKE ICE CREAM. IT'S JUST A MUSHED UP FROZEN BANANA, BLECH!

It is easy as one-two-three. If you are looking for an ice cream alternative, then think about frozen juice. For me, it is fast to cook and very tasty. Besides, you do not need to add any harmful ingredients. I am from https://worldcams.tv/netherlands/amsterdam/dam-square, and seasonal fruits are accessible all the year-round. If you live in the southern country, then you are even more lucky.
